Captain Supreetha CT from Mysuru has made history as the first woman officer from the Army Air Defence to be posted to Siachen, the highest battlefield in the world. Her achievement marks her unwavering determination to break barriers and set a precedent for more women in the armed forces. Capt Supreetha started her military career in 2021 as a Lieutenant and underwent rigorous training in the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai. From her background in the National Cadet Corps to the frontline of combat, she has consistently displayed incomparable courage and resilience.

Who Is Captain Supreetha CT?

Hailing from the Mysuru district in Karnataka, Capt. Supreetha completed her schooling at St. Joseph’s School in Krishnarajanagara. She then went to Marimallappa's Pre-University College in Mysuru (city) before earning a degree in law from JSS Law College. She also has a degree in business administration.

Capt. Supreetha told the New Indian Express that her family background in public services encouraged her to join the armed forces. Her father Thirumallesh is a police sub-inspector in Talakadu near Mysuru, while her mother Nirmala is a homemaker. In school, Capt. Supreetha participated in many athletic events and joined the NCC.

Capt. Supreetha secured the NCC Air Wing 'C' Certificate while completing her education. She also represented and led the Karnataka-Goa contingent in Republic Day parades at the Kartavya Path (Rajpath) in New Delhi. In 2016, Capt. Supreetha represented Karnataka at the All-India Vayu Sainik Camp.

In 2021, Capt. Supreetha joined the Indian Army as a lieutenant and prepared for her Siachen feat at the OTA, Chennai. She was deployed in strategic locations, like Anantnag, Jabalpur and Leh for training. On Republic Day 2024, she and her husband, Major Jerry Blaze, made history as the first couple to take Kartavya Path.

Capt. Supreetha C T's historic posting to Siachen Glacier came on July 18, according to New Indian Express. The Siachen Glacier, located in the eastern Karakoram range of the Himalayas, is known as one of the most challenging battlefields in the world, owing to extreme altitudes and temperatures often dropping to -50°C.
