Falguni Shankar Gaidhane designs apparel and accessories for women. She is a fashion designer with a Bachelor of Design Degree in Fashion and Apparel from NIFT, Hyderabad. Here's her journey.
The onset of my entrepreneurial journey
I actually never pre-planned to turn into an entrepreneur! Entrepreneurship started for me by making tie-dye bags for my friends during my NIFT days. I have always been an explorer and created new things out of curiosity. And that's how I started with tie and dye bags. Seeing the happiness that people got on owning something that I had created made me choose entrepreneurship full time.
Challenges faced during entrepreneurship
Scaling up has been my biggest challenge. The transition from operating at the micro-level to macro is challenging. Also since it's a designer brand, competing with the price points of other brands is tricky.
Small gives space to explore more
Being small helped me explore as much as possible. It gives you an opportunity to create a unique identity for the brand without the pressure of financial liabilities.
How pandemic has affected my business
Pandemic has affected the business in both positive and negative ways. Digitally reaching clients has been the strategy to make up for the slow down of sales. Investing more time in creating engaging social media content has been the priority.
The three lessons my journey taught me
1. Take your time to figure out what sets you apart from the others out there.
2. Discipline and focus are the two traits that should be practiced.
3. Stay physically and mentally fit by regularly working out and eating healthy.
My immediate goal
My immediate goal is to collaborate with multi-designer stores, represent my brand in designer exhibitions, and build a larger audience on social media.
