They say a smile is simple, it does not reveal your achievements. This is not so true for several Olympic enthusiasts like Jordan Chiles and Nyara Sabally as they are flaunting diamond-studded teeth. Chiles, who won the gold medal for the USA in the gymnastics team event, adorned her teeth with Beyonce-themed grills. Meanwhile, basketballer Sabally from Germany has the Olympic rings in her mouth, out of which two on the left and the right side are plain gold and the three in the centre are engraved with small gemstones in three different colours, as a close-up photo in her Instagram reveals.
'Gold For Gold': Jordan Chiles' Glittering Teeth
Amid the celebratory moment for Team USA as Jordan Chiles, Simone Biles, Sunisa Lee, Hezly Rivera, and Jade Carey became the top gymnasts at the Paris Games, another golden object caught the public's eye. Chiles showed off her Beyonce-themed grills that she got specially for the Olympics.
Speaking to GQ, the champion American gymnast said, "I was like, 'You know what, I'm gonna stand on the podium with that gold medal around my neck, and I'm gonna have my grills in, and see what people say!" Chiles had got the grills made in Houston, which is also the hometown of Beyonce. Chiles prove that sports and discipline do not mean there is no space for fashion!
Sabally's bejewelled entry into the Olympics
Nyara Sabally is all set to set foot in the Paris Summer Olympics 2024. She treats Instagram as her bedazzled red carpet for the digital age. The internet audience is going gaga over this tough look as a celebration of her brazen entry into this year's game.
The grills have been made by Fine Ass Fonts, a New-York based company that specialises in creating gold jewellery for dental wear. "He made the jewellery because the German women's basketball team qualified for the Olympics for the first time after defeating Brazil with a score of 2-1 at the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024 in Belem last February," reveals Sabally.
Fire emojis have taken over the comment section with frequent utterances of "She is going to kill it at the Olympics," "Now that's a tough look," and "She definitely ate up with this one." The internet's acceptance of a woman's sporty and rough look is delightful proof that we have come a long way.
The GenZ way of celebrating Germany's historic achievement
Behind Nyara's enthusiasm lies the awe of taking the country of Germany this far in the arena of sports. This was voiced by her sister Satou Sabally in a podcast by Paul George. Satou is also a part of the German women's basketball team, playing for the Dallas Wings.
"I still cannot believe that I'm going to be at the Olympics because I never really thought that Germany could go that far," revealed Satou. "We really fought for this so hard. Not to take anything away from other countries, but I think we're really just at such a special time in German history with sports and women's sports that this means so much more to me than you can imagine."
Sportstars and bejewelled wearables have a history
Ryan Lochte, an American swimmer took home the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Following his win, he greeted everyone with special stars and stripes-themed diamond grill in his mouth. The grill had red, white and blue diamonds encrusted and dazzling in Lothe's wide smile as he got up on the podium to collect his gold medal. This, however, triggered mix responses from the public and stirred a controversy. However, this time the way the public is reacting to Chiles and Sabally's shiny spirit feels like a breath of fresh air.
