What could be more romantic than a grand heartfelt gesture in Paris, widely known as the 'city of love'? Chinese badminton star Liu Yuchen planned the perfect opportunity to propose to his lover, Huang Yaqiong, moments after she won the gold medal in the mixed doubles event with Zheng Siwei at the Olympics. Yuchen, who had won the Tokyo 2020 silver medal in men's doubles, got down on one knee as Yaqiong, with a bouquet in hand, could not help but shed tears of joy at the dreamy moment.

An emotional Yaqiong accepted the proposal, drawing a loud cheer from the audience. Speaking to the media, the 30-year-old athlete shared, "The proposal was very surprising because I’d been preparing for the game. “The ring fits my finger really well." Liu Yuchen's proposal has become viral on social media.

Yaqiong had also won a silver medal in mixed doubles at the Tokyo 2020 Games. A similar proposal caught media attention at the 2016 Rio Olympics when Chinese diver He Zi, who just won a silver medal for the women’s three-metre springboard, was proposed by her lover, fellow medallist diver Qin Kai.
