TN Polls: Smriti Irani Campaigns For BJP's Vanathi Srinivasan, Performs Traditional Dance

Smriti Irani dandiya campaign: Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani campaigned for Vanathi Srinivasan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Coimbatore constituency in the Tamil Nadu assembly election, on Saturday. The state goes to polls on April 6.

As part of the campaign, Irani performed traditional dance with other women BJP workers, as per video reports.

Smriti Irani Dandiya Dance For Vanathi Srinivasan: Who Is She?

Vanathi Srinivasan is a lawyer and thinker, currently serving as the National President of BJP's Women's Wing. She has previously been the Standing Counsel for the government between 2002 and 2004, and is an advocate in the Chennai High Court, having been recognised for her contribution to the field.

Srinivasan is said to be an ideologue for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and has been associated with the BJP since 1993. She contested state elections on the saffron party's ticket in 2011 and 2016 as well. This year, she will face off for the Coimbatore seat in 2021 against actor-politician Kamal Haasan.

In her social campaigns directed at women, Srinivasan has made extensive contributions. Her NGO Thamarai Shakthi Trust works towards upliftment and empowerment of women. She has spoken up against sex verification tests in the sports sector and is an active spokesperson for LGBTQIA rights.
