Bengal Election Mamata injury: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders visiting the Election Commission of India (EC) office in New Delhi on Friday said that the injuries served to their party leader Mamata Banerjee was "an attempt on her life." The six-member delegation stated in their letter that the Nandigram 'attack' was part of a "deep-rooted conspiracy" ahead of the upcoming state assembly election.
We left to it EC to decide the source of investigation, we didn’t demand any specific investigation but we mentioned in our letter to EC that there should be an unbiased investigation," TMC leader Saugata Roy was quoted saying. TMC has been up in arms against the 'attack' on their party supremo in Nandigram on Wednesday, accusing the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of perpetrating the incident.
Banerjee is currently receiving treatment for her injuries at a Kolkata hospital. More here.

The TMC on Thursday also pulled up the EC on the matter, saying that it was for their reputation that the commission must launch a probe into the 'attack.' They also pointed out that the incident occurred within 24 hours of the EC transferring state police DG transferred “at the behest of the BJP” since his wife joined TMC.
The EC had responded saying TMC's letter was “full of insinuations,” adding it is “Completely incorrect to suggest that Commission has taken over law & order machinery in the state in the name of conducting elections and appropriated whole governance structure.” More here.
TMC leaders like Nusrat Jahan Ruhi and Mimi Chakraborty visited Banerjee in hospital after her injury, with the former proclaiming to media, "Mamata Didi is a fighter."
Banerjee, from the hospital, has issued a statement urging “everybody to maintain peace and refrain from doing anything that can cause inconvenience to anybody.” Another video message shows her saying that she would campaign in a wheelchair for the election if needed. "I will be back in the next two or three days," she said.
