A fight between female passengers on the local train turned ugly as they began physically assaulting each other and injured a female police constable. The quarrel began over a seat in the female compartment of the Thane-Panvel local train and has led to the arrest of a 27-year-old woman.

The argument turned into a brawl as women fought over a seat and other passengers got involved. A female constable tried to intervene and resolve the issue but she was injured in the scuffle. The incident took place on October 5 and a video of the fight went viral on social media.

  • A woman, her daughter, and her granddaughter were travelling on the local train. When a seat was vacated at Turbhe station, the woman and her daughter tried to seat the child.
  • However, another woman took the vacant seat instead. The family accused the woman of snatching the seat instead of letting the child sit.
  • The mother began fighting with the woman who took the seat despite interference from the passengers.
  • In the viral video, the women can be seen brutally attacking each other and pulling each other’s hair. Another video shows the aftermath of the fight and shows injured women with headwounds.
  • When the train reached Nerul, a passenger informed the railway about the fight. A female police constable, identified as Sharda Ugle entered the compartment and the fighting ceased for a moment. However, the women began quarrelling again.
  • One of the women continued to hit passengers and injured the constable, who was taken to the hospital and admitted.
  • According to Senior Police Inspector Sambhaji Katare of the Vashi Railway Police Station, the three passengers and Ugle were sent for a medical examination at Vashi municipal hospital.
  • A case was filed under Section 353 (obstructing the work of a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code against the grandmother and mother.
  • The 27-year-old woman was later arrested on October 6.
  • The officer added that the arrested woman would be produced in railway court at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
