A snake was recently found curled up inside a shoe and the video of the rescue mission led by a trained woman personnel has surfaced on social media.
Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officer Susanta Nanda shared a short clip on Twitter and in the caption, he warned people to be careful as snakes can be found at the oddest possible places during monsoon. “Be careful. Take help of trained personnel,” he added.
In the clip, the trained personnel can be seen pushing a rod inside the shoe in order to catch the hidden reptile. Slowly and gradually, the snake is coming out of the footwear, once out he tries to attack her, however, she is seen handling the reptile with precaution and in the end, even manages to take the snake out of the footwear.
The trained personnel is heard explaining why it is necessary to dust shoes before wearing them. She also added that it is important to be alert and cautious, especially during monsoon season.
Responding to the video, one commenter pointed out how snakes are left with no choice but to invade human dwellings. "That their natural habitats have been encroached upon, they are forced to seek refuge in unusual places," he wrote. While another suggested that a small investment in shoe covers could easily prevent such a situation. "A shoecover at cost of 20-50rupees can help to avoid such situations.
Make a habit to keep shoes in such elastic shoe covers," read the reply.
Snake in shoe: not the first video to make it to social media
Meanwhile, in February, a similar incident played out in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram district when a woman official of the forest department, confirmed to be Roshini GS deftly and patiently rescued a cobra. The rescue operation at a house in Kattakkada was caught on camera and shared online, creating a buzz and earning the official much praise.
The footage sees an official, confirmed to be Roshini GS by a Mathrubhumi report, armed with a rescue hook and a bag handling the snake by its tail.
The video gained enormous traction after it was shared online by Indian Forest Service officer, Sudha Ramen, who put up the video to set an example of the fine work women officials in the forest department were doing. Sharing the video, she said, “A brave Forest staff Roshini rescues a snake from the human habitations at Kattakada. She is trained in handling snakes. Women force in Forest depts across the country is growing up in good numbers.”
