Toronto Woman Speaks Punjabi, Internet Approves

A Toronto-based woman tries to speak Punjabi and the internet approves of it. A video of Sarah Wickett introducing herself as she speaks to her audience is gaining a lot of views on Instagram.

Indian people love to see foreigners trying to speak their native languages or embrace the culture in some ways. They find it adorable and often on the internet those videos go viral. We have seen the Instagram star Kili Paul being a favourite of Indians as he lip-syncs to Bollywood numbers on his account. But this time it's a woman based in Toronto in Canada who is grabbing eyes as she takes her audience on a journey of her learning to speak Punjabi.

Sarah Wickett is a pop-country singer and songwriter from Toronto who has a Punjabi boyfriend from Delhi whom she lives with. The recently popular video is a recording of her introducing herself and her boyfriend and their nationality. She captioned it, "I tried my best… 😅" as she says, "Main Toronto toh haan, mera boyfriend Delhi toh haan. Par mera boyfriend Toronto vee ton haan. Aseen Toronto vich rehnde haan (I am from Toronto; my boyfriend is from Delhi. But my boyfriend is also from Toronto. We live in Toronto)".

In the comment section of the video, people praised Wickett for her efforts. Someone said, "You did amazing!! Well done 👏👏your man must be so proud of you ❤️". Another person commented saying, "Haha I'm from Delhi too . Lol so even Delhi people didn't speak as good Punjabi as compared to Punjab people . You tried it well." As we know the representation of regional languages in Bollywood films is quite below standard and when it comes to speaking Punjabi, the characters put minimum efforts to communicate in the Punjabi accent and merely put few words and background music to make it sound Punjabi. So another Instagram user pointed out saying, "She spoke better punjabi than bollywood movies😂". He tried praising Wickett's efforts to speak in a foreign language.

This was not the first time Sarah Wickett tried to speak Punjabi but she has been taking lessons to learn the language for a while and she shares fun videos of her learning journey with her audience. In one of the videos, she surprised her boyfriend by singing in Punjabi and they can be seen singing a song by the famous Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh. In another video, Wickett can be seen practising her Punjabi lessons as she says that her teacher had given her some homework to do.
