Temjen Imna Along, the minister in charge of tribal affairs and higher technical education in Nagaland, won over many hearts on social media on Monday. On World Population Day, he once more drew the attention of online users with his insightful yet humorous commentary.
The 42-year-old minister and current president of Nagaland BJP shared his thoughts on Twitter saying, “On the occasion of #WorldPopulationDay, let us be sensible towards the issues of population growth and inculcate informed choices on childbearing. Or #StaySingle like me and together we can contribute towards a sustainable future. Come join the singles movement today.”

Twitter users adored his take on "population increase" and applauded the minister's perceptive comments. However, Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju answered the Nagaland minister's tweet, saying: "The Education Minister of Nagaland @AlongImna is actually not against marriage but he only intends to increase the numbers of his group,” to which Along replied, “Yes @KirenRijiju Ji. I wouldn't mind if people join my group willingly.”
Referring to the news about Along’s wife, a user posted his earlier tweet of the google search results of FAQs screenshot, and said, “But the world is looking for something else.”
Promoting the tourism of Honnavar, Karnataka, another user commented, “Sirji, since this post has gone viral, I am sure by now your DM is filled with hundreds of marriage proposals, kindly visit Honnavar/ Udupi for your pre-wedding photo shot.”
“You have a unique sense of humour. I really like you blending elements of humour with serious topics,” said someone else.
A user going by the name of Mission Modi 2024 added, “Please consider it as humour and don't take him seriously.”
Referring to a July 7 tweet thread of Elon Must which first read, “Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis. A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far,” another user begged to differ from the minister’s point of view on dealing with population growth.
