Viral: Pakistani Reporter Slaps Boy For Supposed Heckling, Video Gets Mixed Reactions

A Pakistani reporter slapped a boy while covering the streets filled with people during Eid-al-Adha festival. She later issued an explanation for her actions on air. The video of the incident is going viral on the internet and receiving mixed reactions from viewers.

Eid-al-Adha is one of the major holy days of the Muslim community around the world. The festival gets streets and markets bustling with people shopping for themselves and their loved ones- buying new clothes and gifts. On one such occasion, on the busy streets of Pakistan, a female reporter was providing viewers with coverage of the market when she suddenly slapped one of the boys among the crowd that surrounded her.

The reporter, named Maira Hashmi, shared the viral clip on her Instagram account along with the caption in Urdu in which she explained what happened in the video. According to the translation of Maira's clarification on Instagram, it seemed that the boy was misbehaving and harassing a family present nearby.

Defending her actions, Hashmi said that she could not stand there and tolerate the boy's misbehaviour and hence she stepped up and slapped him across the face. The video posted from her Instagram handle has got more than eight thousand views and around 200 comments, some of which support her action while other criticise it as physical abuse. A user wrote, "show the full video. Unprofessional uneducated journalist" while other wrote, "Not good work ma'am".

Supporting her, some users wrote comments like, "More power to you", "Perfect. Taught him a good lesson " and "We Support You Good response on time". Another gives the issue a different point of view as they write, "Let's change the gender for a second and think across it , double standard Liberal ". The video found its way to Twitter, where people began to debate on whether the reporter was right in slapping the boy, or should she have refrained from using violence in order to resolve the situation.
