Viral Video Shows Abducted Woman Being Forcibly Married In Rajasthan

A video of an abducted woman being forcibly married in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, went viral and caught the attention of the Delhi Commission for Women.

A shocking video has been posted on Twitter where a woman is seen crying for help as a man is carrying her in his arms and performing marriage rituals in the small set up of desert.

The video is said to be from the Sankhala district of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. As the video was widely shared on the internet, DCW Chief Swati Maliwal shared the video on her Twitter handle tagging the Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot, and asking for his attention to look into the matter.

The marriage is seen to be taking place in the presence of a woman and a man recording the video while the abducted woman is seen crying throughout the video as the man carrying her in arms forcibly keeps taking rounds around the fire set up.

The Women's Commission chief, Swati Maliwal shared this video on her Twitter handle she says in the caption how shocking and frightening this video is and also asks the CM of the state mentioning him in the video to take a look into the matter and take the necessary actions.

Soon after the video surfaced, Jaisalmer police responded by confirming the arrest of the prime accused and also responds that others involved are being searched and will be arrested soon.

Under the provisions of Article 15 of the Indian Contract Act 1872, forced marriages are illegal in the country. The crime is punishable by 10 years of imprisonment and a penalty of fine.
