Officer Splashes Water On People Sleeping At Platform, Faces Rebuke

A video circulating on social media has gained significant traction, depicting a police officer pouring water on individuals who were peacefully sleeping on a railway platform in Pune. The video has attracted considerable attention online, albeit for negative reasons, sparking discussions and raising concerns about the officer's actions.

In a viral video, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel are seen spraying water on sleeping individuals at a railway platform. The caption accompanying the video expresses disappointment with the incident, stating, "RIP Humanity. Pune Railway Station."

The video has received significant attention, amassing 2 million views. The incident has also caught the attention of Indu Dubey, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Pune, who expressed deep regret over the incident.

In response to the video, Indu Dubey, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Pune, expressed her opinion on the matter. She acknowledged that sleeping on the platform can inconvenience others, but emphasised that the way it was handled by the personnel in the video was not appropriate for counselling passengers. Dubey stated that the staff involved had been appropriately advised to treat passengers with dignity, politeness, and decency. She expressed deep regret over the incident and affirmed her commitment to ensuring respectful interactions between staff and passengers.

The handling of the sleeping individuals in the video drew criticism from netizens, although some users expressed support for the actions of the police officers involved. One user suggested that the government should create additional waiting areas to prevent people from sleeping on the platforms while also emphasising the importance of trains running on time.

Another user commended the policeman for carrying out his duty in a creative manner, reasoning that if people were allowed to sleep on platforms and staircases, it would create obstacles for passengers who were in a hurry to navigate through.

Moreover, in the comments section, some users expressed their disapproval, labelling the incident "shameful," while others took the initiative to tag relevant authorities and advocated for the improvement of waiting rooms.
