World’s Tallest Woman Meets World’s Shortest Woman

Rumeysa Gelgi, a 27-year-old Turkish web developer, and Indian actor Jyoti Amge, 30, met for the first time at The Savoy hotel, exchanging stories and experiences. Gelgi, who stands at 215.16 cm (7 ft 1 in), holds the Guinness World Record for being the tallest woman, while Amge, measuring 62.8 cm (2 ft 1 in), is recognised as the shortest.

Gelgi, diagnosed with a rare condition called Weaver syndrome, experiences accelerated growth and skeletal deformities. Despite needing a wheelchair and a walker for short periods, she remains determined not to let her challenges hold her back. Amge, known for her role as Ma Petite in American Horror Story, has achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism.

Reflecting on their meeting, Gelgi said, “It was so amazing meeting Jyoti for the first time. It was difficult for us to make eye contact at times due to our height difference, but it was great. We do have things in common; we both love makeup, self-care, and doing our nails.”

Amge shared her excitement, saying, “I’m used to looking up and seeing people taller than me, but I was so happy to look up today and see the world’s tallest woman. I’m delighted I’ve met Rumeysa; she is so good-natured, and I felt very comfortable talking to her.”

Honoured as Icons

The pair’s meeting has been highlighted in the 70th-anniversary edition of the Guinness World Records book. They join other record-holders like Diana Armstrong, who has the longest fingernails, and Sultan Kosen, the world’s tallest man.

Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, remarked, “Guinness World Records is all about celebrating differences, and by bringing together these two amazing, iconic women, they can share their perspectives on life with each other and also with us.”
