A woman from Brooklyn, Aevin Dugas from Reserve, Louisiana, has broken the world record for the largest afro on a woman.
Her impressively large hair, measuring 9.84 inches (25 cm) tall, 10.4 inches (26 cm) wide, and 5.41 feet (165 cm) in circumference, has earned her the title and attention from the Guinness World Record. Aevin's hair is so remarkable that it can stand on its own, making her easily noticeable in a crowded room. This achievement has made her a true icon in her own right.
The record book indicates that this is the second instance in which she has broken this world record. When she initially obtained the record title in 2010, the circumference of her afro was an astounding 4 ft 4 in (132 cm).

After a span of 24 years, Aevin deliberately chose to go without any hairstyling products which resulted in the unique hairstyle she is currently having.
Dugas stated that growing an afro was not a conscious decision, but rather a decision to embrace her natural hair.
"That was due to my exhaustion with the hazardous chemicals that I previously used for permanent hair straightening. These chemicals have recently been associated with cancer and a major legal case is ongoing. I am relieved that I abstained from using them years ago," stated Dugas.
Despite the considerable attention that the 47-year-old's hair receives, she seldom styles it in an afro. Instead, she opts for a range of other hairstyles that she wears more frequently. Dugas takes excellent care of her hair by applying hot oil treatments, conditioning it, and styling it every seven days. Moreover, when it comes to handling the oldest and most delicate parts of her hair, she is careful and prefers styles that keep the ends concealed to safeguard them.
Aevin Dugas' voluminous hair draws people's attention, who often stare, ask questions, or attempt to touch it. Her hairdresser also describes it as massive. Although Aevin enjoys the admiration she receives, she acknowledges the drawbacks, such as the discomfort it causes during hot weather in Louisiana.
"I can instantly draw attention in a room full of people by wearing an afro," stated Arvin during an interview with the Guinness World Record. However, she revealed that wearing the afro can be quite uncomfortable in hot weather and is not recommended for outdoor use in Louisiana.
