On May 21, a man shoved a woman against the side of a moving train in the New York City subway in a random and unprovoked attack. 35-year-old Emine Yilmaz Ozsoy was left "instantly paralysed" and is currently fighting for her life.

Ozsoy was walking along the platform at the Lexington Avenue-63rd Street station on Sunday when a man allegedly grabbed her by the head and pushed her into a moving train.
The accused has been identified as Kamal Semrade, 39, and has been charged with attempted murder and assault. Here is all you need to know about the horrific attack.

- Emine Yilmaz Ozsoy is an award-winning artist who was left paralysed from the neck down after a man shoved her into a moving train.
- As per the New York Times, Ozsoy moved to the United States from Istanbul, Turkey in 2017. She left her career as a page designer at one of Turkey's most influential newspapers to pursue art.
- In New York, she worked as an artist and illustrator and also picked up a job as a barista.
- Carolyn McGuigan, the prosecutor at the accused, Semrade's arraignment said Semrade approached Ozsoy from the back, grabbed her head with both hands and violently shoved her into the moving subway car.
- McGuigain revealed that Ozsoy hit the train, crash back into the platform, and the impact left her instantly paralysed.
- According to the prosecutor, Ozsoy suffered a cervical spine fracture, broken fingers, and damage to four blood vessels.
- Ozsoy's husband, Ferdi Ozsoy released a statement and said the artist's life had been "profoundly impacted by this tragic act of violence".
- A GoFundMe fundraising page was set up to help the family with medical bills.
- Ozsoy's husband has shared updates on the page and revealed that while doctors initially informed the family that she had a slim chance of recovering movement below the neck, she managed to move her arms and challenged the prognosis.
- Till now, Ozsoy has undergone two surgeries and remained partially paralysed. According to Ferdi Ozsoy, she was able to lift both arms but could not move her hands. Her legs have remained paralysed.
Tragically, this random attack is not the first one to strike horror in the hearts of people. Last year, Michelle Alyssa Go was killed by a 61-year-old man who shoved her in front of a train.
