Woman Shot Dead In New York

Washington County Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy stated in a press conference that the young adults were just looking for a friend's house when they accidentally drove into Monahan’s driveway, and he decided to come out with a firearm and discharge it.

As soon as the friends realised they had gotten into the wrong driveway, they were leaving when Monahan came out of the house and fired at them. The group of four had not attempted to exit the vehicle or enter Monahan's house before he opened fire on them.

After being shot at, the friends drove away from Monahan’s house, looking for an area with cell service to call the police. The paramedics found them five miles away from Monahan’s house, near the town of Salem. After trying CPR, the paramedics pronounced Gillis dead.

Police officers revealed that Monahan was uncooperative and refused to leave his house to speak with the police. He was then taken into custody with the help of the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team.

A GoFundMe page was created to help Gilli’s family with funeral costs and other expenses.

Sheriff Murphy described the tragedy as a "very sad case of some young adults that were looking for a friend's house, and ended up at this man's house".

The incident occurred days after a 16-year-old teenage boy was shot and wounded after he accidentally went to the wrong house to pick up his young brothers.
