A 90-Year-Old Retires From Work After 74 Years:

A 90-year-old woman called Melba Mebane has finally retired after her outstanding career in sales for 74 years at a departmental store Dillards in Tyler, Texas, United States.

In 1949, Mebane started working as an elevator girl at Dillard's and worked her way up to the cosmetics department in sales, where she remained until her retirement.

Mebane worked non-stop for 74 years and never missed a day at work or called in sick. Mebane described that she loved working with great ladies who loved to eat, laugh, and cut up and how much she cherished every friendship and acquaintance she experienced throughout her career.

The store manager of Dillard's Tyler store described Mebane as someone who sets the tone of the store and is everything they seek to ensure luxury customer service. Other employees recall as well how Mebane was not just an acquaintance or a trainer but a friend and a mother as well, admiring Mebane for her work and her relations with co-workers as well.

While Mebane's son recalled in an interview how he used to go to his grandparents' house and ask his granddad to take him to the store around 7 pm so he could run around the mall, the son described remembering how his mother loved working and also how much they needed this job, expressing their gratitude to the job as a family.

Dillard also gained from the longevity of Mebane's career, as many customers used to leave the store if Mebane was not there. Mebane has a very good bond with customers who just love her.

There was a celebration held to honour Mebane's decades of work and dedication to her job and the company. She even received a certificate of excellence for being the store's longest-working employee.

Mebane now plans to eat, travel and rest.
