A woman was charged with poisoning her long-term boyfriend to death thinking of getting his inheritance of 30 million dollars. However, later, the inheritance turned out to be a scam. The woman, Thea Kenoyer, was arrested in October for AA felony murder which is the most regressive charge of murder in North Dakota. On Wednesday, she pleaded guilty to murdering her decade-old boyfriend Steven Edward Riley Jr.

As per the sources, the investigators found a bottle of Windex filled with antifreeze. In the arrest affidavit, authorities said that Riley was going to leave his long-term girlfriend. He was heading to the airport with his friends to meet the lawyer about the wealth he thought he inherited. However, investigators have now said that the inheritance was just a hoax.

What happened on the day of the incident?

Back then, while Riley was on his way to see the lawyer, he complained of stomach ache. His friends said that he seemed drunk. However, Kenoyer, who claimed to be a medical practitioner, said it was just a heat stroke and would be fine if he rested at home.

Later, through a blood test, no trace of alcohol was found in Riley's body. The investigators found a beer bottle and a plastic mug filled with a green liquid similar to a Windex bottle at the couple's house.

Kenoyer kept defending herself by saying that Riley had a day drinking habit. She explained various reasons to support the poison-induced symptoms. However, when authorities spoke to Riley's friends, they said that Kenoyer had talked about killing her boyfriend with antifreeze.

After testing Riley's body, a toxic level of ethylene glycol was found.

Kenoyer's confession and arrest

Kenoyer claimed to be Riley's Common-law wife and had planned to split his inherited wealth with his son. As per the arrest document, she was upset because the law didn't recognise her as a common-law wife. She hence admitted to having spiked Riley's sweet tea with antifreeze before he went to meet the lawyer.

She was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

Kenoyer is set to be sentenced on August 14. She might undergo another psychological investigation before that.
