Beauty products and fashion accessories may look pretty on the outside but they always come with a warning sign. Not all products suit everyone and not all procedures turn out right. Hence, it is really important to be careful of what you are exposing your skin to. An example is the recent case of a woman whose nail paint landed her in trouble.

Nail paints and extensions are a popular beauty trend these days. People are trying new colours and quirky designs on their nails which are getting really popular. However, people should be really careful of which nail paints they are using and if they are creating any change or discomfort, even minor ones.

According to the New York Post, a woman recently underwent a seemingly normal gel nail paint manicure and got allergies so bad she was unable to use her hands for quite some time. Here's what happened.

Woman Gets Allergy From Gel Nail Paint

In February, 36-year-old Lisa Dewey went to get her nails done like usual and this time, she decided to try the gel nail paint. She got her nails done but soon started witnessing irritation in her nails. Her nails were inflamed and were peeling out of her skin.

Worried, she went to a doctor who told her it was a bacterial infection and sent her home with antibiotics and steroid cream. The medication seemed to work as her symptoms toned down.

However, in April she decided to get her nails done again and chose acrylic nails which turned out to be a bad decision as her nails aggravated yet again.

Dewey reportedly described that she got purple nail beds and her nails peeled just like how paper tears away. She was worried that she might lose her fingers as she wasn't able to do anything with her hands because of her nail condition. Her nails looked terrible and she was embarrassed of showing them in public which took a toll on her confidence as well. She decided never to use gel or acrylic nail products in the future.

Acrylic and gel nails have been reported to trigger allergies and infections as they contain methacrylate chemicals as noticed by dermatologists. There have been many such cases of nail infections caused by gel and acrylic nails recently where people have reported that their nails would fall off easily.
