Who Is Shefali Razdan Duggal? Next US Ambassador To The Netherlands

Indian-American politician Shefali Razdan Duggal was sworn in to become America’s next Ambassador to the Netherlands by Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday, October 7.

The political activist had been confirmed by the United States Senate as the nation’s next envoy to the Netherlands on March 11. “Shefali Razdan Duggal, Nominee for Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands”, said the White House in a statement.

She was sworn in by US Vice President Kamala Harris, who tweeted, "I had the privilege of swearing in Shefali Razdan Duggal to be our next Ambassador to the Netherlands. We wish you well in this new role and thank you for your leadership".

Who Is Shefali Razdan Duggal?

• Indian-born American political activist Shefali Razdan Duggal was sworn in to become the next United States Ambassador to the Netherlands.
• The Kashmiri Pandit was born in Haridwar, Uttar Pradesh and moved to the United States with her family when she was two years old.
• Duggal has a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication from Miami University and a Master of Arts in Media Ecology from New York University.
• She began her career in politics when she volunteered for the Massachusetts Democratic Party and the New Hampshire Democratic Party.
• Duggal later volunteered for Senator Ted Kennedy and Senator Dianne Feinstein.
• She worked at her first presidential campaign in 2000 where she was a volunteer.
• Following the 2000 election, she worked at the political strategy firm Staton Hughes as a Political Analyst. Duggal became a graduate of Emerge America, the political leadership training program for Democratic women.
• Duggal worked for the Barack Obama 2012 presidential campaign as part of the National Finance Committee.
• She was previously appointed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council by then-President Obama. The Council supervises the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.
• During the 2020 US presidential election, Duggal worked on the National Finance Committee of Joe Biden's campaign. She also served as a national co-chair for Women for Biden.
• Biden nominated her as the nation's Ambassador to the Netherlands in March. Her nomination was approved by the Senate on September 14.
• On October 7, Vice President Harris administered the swearing-in of Duggal as the next envoy to the Netherlands.
