A female employee in the US quit her job citing the micromanagement of the manager as the reason behind it. The woman, who worked as a housekeeper, curated a resignation letter showing her workplace's toxicity. The letter has gone viral since the employee posted it on Reddit. Many people resonated with the letter while others appreciated the woman's honesty.
In the letter, the woman clearly stated that the workplace is unhealthy for an enthusiastic employee. Being one of those employees who loves working at the job, the woman expressed regret in the letter about leaving the company.
She wrote, “I have never sent an employer such an email, but I am very hurt. This job was one of the best I have had, yet my manager managed to suck the spirit out of me and I grew to hate it with a passion. I was a housekeeper mainly, and often wasn't provided the supplies to do my job,” she says in the post.”
Anxious, depressed and lonely at work
The woman said that she felt anxious due to constant supervision, stifled communication and the company's irresponsibility towards employee safety.
She wrote that because the manager tended to be aware of everything happening in the workplace, she had to hide from the manager to have a conversation with her co-workers. This restriction led to a lonely work environment. The woman said that she felt “depressed” because, despite the presence of people, she had to be by herself.
She further said that employee's inputs and Ideas are also not catered to in staff meetings
'We don't do work that requires us to be silent'
Lack of safety equipment for housekeeper
The woman further expressed concerns about her safety. She wrote, “I have never sent an employer such an email, but I am very hurt. This job was one of the best I have had, yet my manager managed to suck the spirit out of me and I grew to hate it with a passion. I was a housekeeper mainly, and often wasn't provided the supplies to do my job.”
Explaining further the deteriorated situation of her safety, she said, “We have had multiple bedbug outbreaks, and my manager failed to follow the protocol and would send me into an infested room to clean anyway and would just say ‘make sure you disinfect really well, and when you get home just drop your clothes at the door and put them into the wash’. She was a micromanager to the extreme, but I did not want to go into every little detail as it was unnecessary.”
She further added, “ We work in a building full of sick children and we go above and beyond to make sure we keep things clean for them, but I felt there was a complete disregard for safety when it came down to the people keeping it clean for those children”
Even though the woman enjoyed working, she expressed her denial of working in such a toxic condition.
