United Airlines is in a legal predicament following a lawsuit filed by two flight attendants. The lawsuit accuses the airline of exclusively selecting "young, white, and thin" female crew members for the Los Angeles Dodgers charter flights. The flight attendants contend that women from minority backgrounds were substituted with white counterparts, alleging racial bias in the airline's hiring practices for these flights.

Flight attendants, Darby Quezada and Dawn Todd, who possess 15 years of experience at United Airlines, filed a lawsuit against the airline. Darby Quezada, a 44-year-old individual, has a heritage that includes Black, Mexican, and Jewish origins. Dawn Todd, on the other hand, is a 50-year-old of Black descent.

The Lawsuit

Reportedly, the female flight attendants claimed that United Airlines staff members of Caucasian descent were involved in discriminatory behaviour against minority flight attendants on the Dodgers charter flights. The white crew members were also reported to have made comments that included expressions of bias against them.

According to the New York Post, the complainants also alleged that the white United flight attendants did not have to undergo interviews to secure those sought-after positions. It emphasised that the plaintiffs had to go through "extensive" interview processes to attain their positions.

Furthermore, they alleged that after their interviews and initial entry into the program, Todd and Quezada were assigned fewer tasks on the Dodgers flights. Over time, both of them experienced demotions, with Quezada ultimately being removed from her position without any apparent justification.

Also, Todd encountered disrespectful treatment from other staff members and supervisors who derogatorily referred to her as "the flight's maid."

The lawsuit cites the 2020 settlement of United Airlines where they were accused of populating flights with "young, white, female, and predominantly blonde/blue-eyed" attendants, as the foundation for the new case, asserting that changes occurred once more in 2022 when multiple white United flight attendants were included in the dedicated crew.

According to the lawsuit, Todd and Quezada suffered financial losses as a result of the company's actions, in addition to experiencing adverse effects on their well-being, including panic attacks, anxiety, and a decline in self-confidence. They are pursuing a trial by jury to address their grievances.
