Shannen Doherty, the beloved actor known for her roles in popular series like Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed, has passed away at the age of 53 after a long fight with breast cancer. Her publicist, Leslie Sloane, announced her passing, stating, “On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.” Doherty was surrounded by her family and her dog, Bowie, at the time of her death. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Shannen moved to Los Angeles with her family when she was young. She began her acting career at just 10 years old with a role in the TV series Father Murphy. Her talent was quickly recognised by Michael Landon, who cast her as Jenny Wilder in the classic show Little House on the Prairie when she was only 11.

After that, she appeared in a recurring role on the family drama Our House, alongside Wilfred Brimley. Doherty also made her mark in feature films, starring in the iconic teen movie Heathers, as well as in Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Kevin Smith’s Mallrats, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Throughout her career, Shannen appeared in various other shows, including North Shore and Riverdale, and acted in several TV movies. Her talent and charisma made her a favourite among fans.

Shannen Doherty Passes Away at 53 After Brave Battle with Cancer

In February 2015, Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer. By 2017, she announced she was in remission, bringing hope to her supporters. However, the cancer returned in 2019 and spread. Despite her struggles, she continued to work in the industry, taking on roles in TV movies such as Dying to Belong and List of a Lifetime. She also hosted a well-received podcast called Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty, where she openly discussed her career and the impact of cancer on her life.

In June 2023, Shannen revealed that she was receiving radiation treatment for cancer that had spread to her brain, highlighting her ongoing battle with the disease.

Doherty's personal life included two brief marriages: first to Ashley Hamilton, the son of actor George Hamilton, and later to poker player Rick Salomon. In 2011, she married photographer Kurt Iswarienko, but they filed for divorce in 2023.
