In yet another atrocious incident, singer and songwriter Shakira stormed off the stage while dancing to her new song 'Soltera' at the nightclub LIV Miami in Florida. This happened after she caught a man trying to record underneath her dress while she was on the stage. The video of the incident has now triggered outrage on social media.
The viral video shows how the Colombian singer was excellently donning a sequin dress and performing her new song 'Soltera' when in the middle of it, she noticed an unidentified man filming under her dress. She warned him with a gesture, and swiftly pulled her dress down. She continued to dance but eventually stormed off the stage.
Netizens label the entire incident as "GROSS"
Meanwhile, after sharing the video, an X handle @FeimM_ wrote, “Shakira leaves the stage after people were filming under her dress whilst she was dancing to her new single. People are GROSS.” The video ignited tremendous outrage on social media as several users condemned the act.
A user wrote, “Whoever was filming should be arrested for sexual assault.” Another user commented, “I hate how anyone thinks this is appropriate!!”
“That’s just beyond gross. Shakira had every right to walk off, no one should have to deal with that kind of disrespect, especially when she’s just out there performing her music. People need to learn how to act with basic decency!” a third user reacted.
A tweet also read, "That's truly disappointing behaviour. Artists deserve respect and privacy, both on and off stage. It's crucial to ensure a safe environment for everyone." Someone also said, "It is very shameful that Shakira was abused during a live program." An X user also called out the man, who was recording Shakira, for the 'creepy vibes'.
Who is the man who recorded Shakira?
Sofia Bukele, director of Hispanic and Latam Media Relations, issued a statement stating that the man filming Shakira was a member of her staff and that "he was taking images of the show for official purposes."
"Although a rumour has been generated about a fan who was filming under her dress, the truth is that the person filming was a member of her own team taking content about her performance at the renowned nightclub," said Sofia Bukele in a statement
Bukele noted that after what some media outlets described as "awkward," Shakira asked her fans to put down their phones so they could enjoy the moment with her and enjoy an unforgettable night.
Earlier this year, Shakira released her 12th Studio album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women Don’t Cary Anymore). In 2022, the Colombian singer also made headlines after she announced her separation from Spanish footballer Gerard Pique. The couple was together for 11 years.
