There has been much speculation over who would fill Superman’s shoes after Henry Cavill’s decade playing the character on the big screen. Corenswet reportedly won the role over the likes of Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Only three actors have played the character of Superman on the big screen, with Christopher Reeve’s career-defining work in 1978’s Superman launching the modern superhero genre and spawning three sequels. Brandon Routh starred in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns (2006), a film that failed to ignite the box office. And a decade ago, Henry Cavill starred in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, the film that launched the DC Extended Universe and made Cavill a fan favourite.
Cavill went on to appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017) and, after years away from the role, appeared in a cameo in Black Adam (2022).
Meanwhile, Corenswet is best known for his breakout role in Netflix's The Politician, with Brosnahan earning several accolades for her role as the title character in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. Gunn who will directing the upcoming project called the two 'incredible actors.'
Margot Kidder, Kate Bosworth and Amy Adams have brought the Lois Lane character to life in previous Superman films.
Brosnahan on getting the opportunity to portray the role said, "I grew up watching Lois Lane, this incredibly talented journalist, who is far from a damsel in distress, and I would jump at the chance if it arose."
Superman: Legacy is aimed for a release date of July 11, 2025, with Gunn expecting to film early next year
