The Top Chef host maintains her body and health very well and looks absolutely flawless at 50. However, Lakshmi feels like she has flaws but they don't affect her confidence and admiration she has for her body. Lakshmi admitted that she was nervous about the photo shoot despite knowing that she maintained her body well at 52. She said that her thighs and breasts may have been different when she was younger but she felt happy in her present body with all its flaws and changes it went through. In a promotional video for the magazine Sports Illustrated, she wished that the world too sees her as a full woman who embraces her body along with its flaws
Women are often associated with a certain 'shelf life’, especially in the entertainment sector. Breaking the stereotype around a woman's age, Lakshmi said that she wanted young women to see this photoshoot and realise that they have a long life to live and do what they want. Ageing brings wisdom and experience which only enriches them physically and emotionally. Lakshmi said that she is thankful to her body for allowing her to eat what she wants and embrace motherhood. The purpose of this photoshoot is to encourage women to embrace their age and features.
Padma Lakshmi once talked about how her obsession with weight loss affected her daughter's perspective on her own body. A few years back, she said she gained weight and was on a diet to shed some pounds. Her seven-year-old daughter Krishna used to observe her avoiding food to watch her weight and started being conscious of her weight and body as well. She realised how her habits were making her daughter worried about her body instead of embracing the way it is. That's when she stopped worrying about her weight and size to make sure that her daughter does not measure her worth by her weight and size.
