In a recent TikTok video which surfaced on Twitter, a surgeon photoshopped Stranger Things' actor Natalia Dyer's face explaining how she would 'fix' it with various cosmetic procedures. The video, as well as the beautician, is receiving a lot of criticism over the internet for subjecting the actor to the conventional norms of female beauty as it only make women feel more insecure about their appearance.
Throughout centuries, women have been subjected to so many prejudices, especially those involving their appearances and beauty standards. From the colour of their skin, to the shape of their bodies, women's relevance in society is judged based on the beauty standards set by society which aims to take control of women's self worth. Celebrities and actors, who spent a better part of their lives in the public eye, have it worse. The conventional perception of a slim, fair-complexioned female actor is used to determine her standing, instead of her professional caliber.
Natalia Dyer Face Photoshop TikTok Video
A TikTok video was shared by a beautician, which later surface on Twitter, in which she basically pointed out at so-called imperfections in Stranger Things actor Natalia Dyer's face. The video reimagined the face of the star as the beautician suggested how it 'should' look, 'fixing' it with photoshop. The TikTok video was shared on Twitter by user @probablypersian. The one-minute video recreated Dyer's face making her jaw slimmer, chin more pointy and her eye-brows more lifted.
Originally created by TikTok handle @np.miranda, the video has been drawing flak over Twitter ever since it surfaced online. Netizens are criticising the creator for subjecting Natalia Dyer, who plays the role of Nancy Wheeler in popular OTT series Stranger Things, to the conventional and prejudicial norms of female beauty. Many believe that such beauty standards have resulted in the low-self esteem and lack of confidence in numerous women as they see beauty influencers and surgeons openly call certain facial features as imperfections.
Commenting on the post shared by the Twitter user, @etrnalsunsets mentioned, "she’s literally drop dead gorgeous I hate these kinds of tik toks." Many Twitter users came in support of the actor as they told her not to heed to such suggestions. A Twitter user wrote, "OMG Natalia’s face is PERFECTION as it is. All of the things she wanted to “fix” aka ruin are what gives her face character. PLEASE NATALIA DON’T LISTEN TO THEM YOU’RE SO SO SO PRETTY." Another user said, "I can't believe she effectively ruined the face of one of the most beautiful women ever."
