Four-time Grand Slam tennis champion Naomi Osaka has given birth to a baby girl, People magazine reported on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old Japanese star and rapper boyfriend Cordae welcomed their first child in Los Angeles, and the name of the baby girl has not yet been disclosed.
Both mother and daughter were doing well, according to People, citing an unnamed source.
The couple said that Osaka was expecting a baby on social media in January. In June, Osaka revealed she was expecting a girl with a princess-themed baby shower.
She also spoke to Bazaar in March about how she managed to stay calm and entertained during her pregnancy. "I have been very fortunate to have a relatively easy pregnancy. I still enjoy listening to music and playing video games as a way to relax," she said at the time. "Meditation has been extremely helpful for my anxiety."
Osaka withdrew from the Australian Open earlier this year, and the 25-year-old has taken a break from professional tennis since.
She made it clear that she plans to return to tennis at the 2024 Australian Open and also emphasised her ambition to represent Japan at next year’s Olympic Games.
“I am convinced that this baby will push me to try even harder and give my best,” she said according to tennisworIdusa.com.
