Nancy Pelosi's Husband Paul Pelosi Attacked
The San Francisco police said that their officers found the assailant at Pelosi’s California house when he and Paul Pelosi were fighting over a hammer. Bill Scott, the San Francisco police chief told reporters that the assailant “pulled the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it”.
According to reports, Paul managed to call the police while the assailant was distracted. The assailant Depape broke in through a sliding glass door and had taken extreme right-wing positions on social media.
Scott named the assailant as 42-year-old David Depape and added that he would be charged with attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, and other felonies. The US attorney's office announced that Depape has been charged with assault and attempted kidnapping.
CNN reported quoting a source who said the assailant confronted Pelosi’s husband and shouted, “Where is Nancy? Where is Nancy?”
Reportedly, Pelosi is flying back to San Francisco with her family to be with her husband, who is currently hospitalised and is expected to make recovery.
According to analysts, speaker Pelosi is second in line to become the president of the United States after the Vice President in case the President is incapacitated. Analysts are saying that since Pelosi is second in the order of succession it is strange that her house did not have adequate security.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre condemned the attack in an official statement and said that President Joe Biden was praying for Paul Pelosi and the whole family.
