In a devastating revelation, Christine Dawood, the wife and mother of victims of the Titanic submarine disaster, revealed the last moments before the family said goodbye.
According to Dawood, she was originally planning to join her husband Shahzada Dawood on the OceanGate Expeditions mission but made the selfless choice to give up her spot for her son Suleman.
In an interview with BBC, she reflected on the tragedy and said her husband and son were "very excited" to visit the Titanic wreckage on the ocean floor. Her remarks come after the US Coast Guard's confirmation on the submersible experienced a "catastrophic implosion" that resulted in the deaths of all five aboard.
Christine and her daughter Alina accompanied Shahzada and Suleman to the support ship Polar Prince, where they bid them farewell before they boarded the doomed submersible. Hours passed without communication, she said she had lost hope when they passed the 96-hour mark and at that point, she sent a message to her family on land informing them that she was getting ready for the worst.
However, Christine's daughter Alina remained steadfast in her belief that science and engineering would ensure her father and brother's safe return until the Coast Guard contacted to report finding the debris.
The mother of the Titan subs youngest victim, gave up her place on the Titan sub for her ‘excited’ son.
