Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is now making headlines for professional reasons. The former actor who was last seen in the law series Suits has signed a deal with talent agency William Morris Agency (WME), according to an announcement by the agency on their Twitter handle.
Reportedly, Markle’s team at WME will take over representation for her and Prince Harry’s company, Archewell Productions.
Meghan Markle Partners With WME
Markle’s partnership with WME will cover film and television production, but fans shouldn’t be expecting her to return to acting anytime soon. Acting will not be the focus of the deal, according to Variety. In an exclusive with Variety in October 2022, she herself hinted that she’s "done" with acting for now, but she didn’t rule out the possibility entirely.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry moved to California in 2020 after renouncing their roles as senior working royals. The couple have been working with Netflix on various projects through their production company. This includes their documentary series, Harry & Meghan. They have been raising their two kids, Archie and Lilibet, in the US and have been very candid in sharing their experiences before and after leaving the royal family.
Prince Harry has been pursuing his own projects and focuses on making documentaries about social causes. He has also expressed his desire to make an entry into Hollywood, but sources state that he aims to do it on his own and not by using his royal connections.
With Markle’s new deal with WME, the former Suits star is making a comeback into the entertainment industry, but not as an actor for now.
Markle was last seen in the American legal drama Suits. She played Rachel Zane, one of the lead roles in the series. The series ran for nine seasons; however, Markle left the show after seven seasons after getting married to Prince Harry. The couple got married in May 2018.
In January 2020, Buckingham Palace released a royal statement announcing that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were stepping down from royal duties to embark on a new chapter of their lives. According to a statement by Queen Elizabeth II, the couple left as a result of intense media scrutiny and wished to have an independent life.
