Singer Mariah Carey recently mentioned in a conversation with People how she lost her mother and sister on the same day last week, "My heart is broken."

Mariah's mum Patricia and sister Alicia died last week on the same day in a tragic turn of events.
Her statement read, "My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day."
No other details about the cause of death have been revealed by Carey. She would like to take her time to open up to the world and the media after falling victim to such a grave tragedy. She has requested people to respect her privacy in these times of crisis.
"I appreciate everyone's love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time," she says.
Amid this tragedy, what makes Mariah feel blessed?
Mariah Carey was still able to find a silver lining as the dark clouds cloak over her life right now. She says she feels blessed by all the time she got to spend with her now-late mother. Rather than fixating on the fact she is gone, she would like to cherish memories of when she was still here.
"I feel so blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed," says Mariah.
Mariah and Mommy: The Love-Hate Duo
Mariah has often quoted how she shares a "complicated" relationship with her mother. They have a love-hate bond and have many reasons to disagree with one another on days.
According to a People report, Mariah has addressed her complicated relationship with her mother in her memoir "The Meaning of Mariah Carey" saying that it has caused her a "lot of confusion and pain."
"Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment." Mariah's statement about her mother reads.
Her relationship with her sister was also not very lovey-dovey-like. Mariah indirectly accused her of causing her physical and emotional harm. "For a time, it was safer for me not to have any physical or emotional contact with her."
