A five-year-old girl from Kansas, United States, who was thrown out of the house by her mother was raped and murdered at a campsite for the homeless. The accused, identified as Mickel W. Cherry, was arrested on October 3 and charged with rape and murder of a minor under the age of 14.
The accused man will appear in court on December 21 and is being held on a $2 million bond.
According to the New York Post, the girl, Zoey Felix, was found at a petrol bunk with fatal injuries, and she was declared dead on arrival after being taken to the hospital.

Neighbours who spoke to Topeka Capital-Journal said Cherry used to reside in the same house as the child along with other members.
However, the girl’s mother allegedly threw everyone out of the house, after which they decided to live at a campsite within a mile of the house. The relationship between the child’s mother and the accused remains unclear.
The girl reportedly had a “turbulent” life at home. Neighbours said they have seen the child running around “unsupervised”. They informed that people in the community used to help keep her healthy and take care of her basic needs, including food, clothing, and bathing. The child did not even attend school.
A neighbour named Sharon Williams said, "Zoey did not deserve to be in anybody's woods. This is her home right here. She has one, two, three, four, or five people that would do anything for her." Another neighbour said that the child always used to come and ask for something to eat. She also used to ask if she could stay, which indicated that something was going on at home.
Court records cited by the Capital Journal Zoey’s mother admitted guilt to aggravated violence with a dangerous weapon when the kid was born in 2018. The initials Z.F. were mentioned in court records from March. She was then placed on 18 months of “supervised probation” for the same.
The child’s uncle described Zoey as a “sweet, funny, and goofy little girl who had a great smile and laugh that lit up the world” on a GoFundMe page for her funeral costs.
