North West, the eldest daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, who is known for her TikTok presence, recently disclosed in a TikTok video that she has dyslexia.
In the video, North candidly shared her learning disorder with her mother. The 10-year-old mentioned, "Guys, I have dyslexia. Do you even know what that is?" Before North could provide more information, Kim Kardashian, who has been receiving acclaim for her role in American Horror Story: Delicate, interjected, saying, "Northy, you are sure spilling the tea on here."
North West Reveals Dyslexia Diagnosis
Neither Kim nor North elaborated further on North's dyslexia, but Kardashian clarified that she "purposely" avoids discussing her daughter's personal life.
For those unaware, Dyslexia, a learning disorder commonly referred to as a reading disability, is characterised by challenges in reading, primarily stemming from difficulties in recognising speech sounds and understanding their connections to letters and words (decoding). This condition arises from variations in the brain regions responsible for language processing among individuals.
Kim and Kanye welcomed North in June 2013, followed by the birth of their son Saint two years later, daughter Chicago in 2018, and son Psalm in the subsequent year. Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021 after almost seven years of marriage, and the former couple reached a settlement in November 2022.
Following North's query about releasing an album, Kim Kardashian issued a warning during the livestream, stating, "I am going to get off this live right now because you are just saying way too much. I purposely don’t talk about stuff that you are going through."
North's Social Media Presence
North, Kardashian's eldest daughter, has gained recognition for her entertaining TikTok videos. However, the use of social media by North has been a point of contention between Kardashian and her ex-husband Kanye West, who, at 46, has expressed disagreement with North's presence on social media. Kim, on the other hand, views it as an essential creative outlet for their daughter.
West's Disagreement with North's Online Presence
In February 2022, West took to Instagram to criticise Kardashian for allowing North to use TikTok. He posted a now-deleted message saying, "SINCE THIS IS MY FIRST DIVORCE, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO ABOUT MY DAUGHTER BEING PUT ON TIK TOK AGAINST MY WILL." In response, Kardashian defended her decision on Instagram Stories.
She wrote, "Kanye’s constant attacks on me in interviews and on social media are actually more hurtful than any TikTok North might create. As the parent who is the main provider and carer for our children, I am doing my best to protect our daughter while also allowing her to express her creativity in the medium that she wishes with adult supervision because it brings her happiness."
Kim Kardashian's Protective Stance on North's Online Activities
In an interview with Time published in June, Kim recalled second-guessing a TikTok of herself and North, which she eventually deleted. She mentioned, "As soon as I saw the words, I was like, ‘Oh, no, we’re taking this down.’" The video featured the mother-daughter duo lip-synching to Ice Spice's song Boy's a Liar, Pt. 2.
Kardashian added, "I saw on the internet [people were saying], ‘Kanye was right,’ and maybe he was in that instance. But [North] loves making slime videos and doing her little hair tutorials, and I will fight for her to be creative."
A source told US Weekly in the same month that while West still disagrees with North being on social media, "he appreciates Kim being reasonable about certain content she posts." The source further noted, "Kanye has a really strong bond with North, and even though he completely trusts her, he knows she’s still very young and can’t always make the best judgement call on what’s appropriate to share with the public and what’s not."
