Harris Claims Her Grandfather Was Part Of India's Freedom Movement

“As a young girl visiting my grandparents in India, my grandfather used to take me along with him on his morning walks, where he would discuss the importance of fighting for equality and corruption. He was a retired civil servant who had been part of the movement to win India’s independence,” wrote Harris in her post on X.

She further went on to describe her grandmother’s activism how her grandmother travelled across India with a bullhorn in hand and used to speak with women all around about accessing birth control. Reflecting on their influence, the 59-year-old Vice President added, “Their commitment to public service and fight for a better future live on in me even today.”

Harris concluded with a warm message on her social media post, “Happy National Grandparents Day to all the grandparents who help shape and inspire the next generation.” The post, since being shared on September 8, has since gone viral with over two million views and still counting. Many even took to the comments section of the post to share their thoughts.

The post was yet encountered by comments of sheer criticism, “LIAR! Your grandfather was in the British Imperial Secretariat Service which became the Central Secretariat Service after independence. How could a serving bureaucrat be part of the independence movement opposing the same government & violating service rules?” wrote an individual. Meanwhile, another user added, “Oh give it a rest. Just like how you said you worked at McDonalds but you never did?”

"Your grandparents’ legacy resonates deeply with us in India and their fight for equality and justice mirrors the very spirit of our nation. Their dedication to public service and their courage to stand up for what’s right is inspiring, and it’s heartening to see those values live on in you,” expressed a third. Other users kept commenting how  “America is truly a nation of dreams. I can’t wait to call you Madam President" and “Are people of Indian descent buying this?”

Netizens are currently in disbelief of a normal yet celebratory post by Harris as it ignites their emotions of the freedom struggle while the historical truths they claim to have known for years.
