Jenna Fischer is popularly known for playing the character of Pam Weasley on the sitcom, The Office. For decades, she was the beloved Pam for the American audience who adored her for her cute demeanour and resilient persona on the show.
But who knew she was imitating this bravery in real life as well? Jenna recently took to Instagram to share how she has been battling with breast cancer for several months now and now she is finally cured.
"I am cancer-free" reads Jenna's post
Jenna shared a laughing picture of her which was ironic given the serious health issue she was talking about in the post. But she mentions that this juxtaposition was intentional so people can make light of the fact that all is well now.
Her caption reads, "October is breast cancer awareness month. I never thought I'd be making an announcement like this but here we are. Last December, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Triple Positive Breast Cancer. After completing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation I am now cancer free.
I wanted a photo of myself in my patchy pixie looking happy and healthy to go along with the news. A big thank you to Angela Kinsey's husband Josh Snyder for taking this photo. It's just one example of the care they showed me during this journey."
Fischer also wrote that she was sharing her experience to support other women with a breast cancer diagnosis: “As anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis knows, your life changes immediately. It becomes all about doctor appointments, test results, treatments and recovering from treatments. Suddenly everything in your life is geared around one thing: fighting cancer.”
The actor thanked the “amazing village” of medical professionals, friends, family and other cancer survivors that had helped her for the past year – including her Office co-star and Office Ladies podcast co-host Angela Kinsey, who “protected me and advocated for me”.
Jenna makes The Office references
In the last slide of the post, Jenna makes an Office reference where she obliges people in the words of Michael Scott, "Again don't skip your mammogram. Take it from Pam and her Pam Pams. Michael was right. Get 'em checked ladies."
