Conservative Ohio Senator JD Vance is running alongside Trump in his presidential campaign as his Vice President pick. Vance is married to Indian-origin lawyer Usha Chilukuri Vance, who he believes had a major influence over his career.
Meet JD And Usha Chilukuri Vance
The couple met in 2013 at Yale Law School when they were students, at a group discussion about 'the social decline of White America'. The college love flourished into something more when the couple married in 2014 after JD confessed his love to her after only one date. Their family expanded and now they have two sons Ewan and Vivek, and a daughter Mirabel.
What makes their story special, however, is, of course, the 'love at first sight' element in addition to how they constantly support each other in all their endeavours. Possibly the most popular friends-to-lovers in the political world as of now, Usha and JD were seen together at the recent Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, "We started as friends. He was then, as he is now, the most interesting person I knew - a working-class guy who had overcome childhood traumas that I could barely fathom to end up at Yale Law School, a tough marine who had served in Iraq, but who enjoyed spending his leisure time playing with puppies and watching the movie 'Babe'."
Usha spoke about how JD was always a ''meat and potatoes'' kind of person but has now tried his hand at cooking Indian cuisine. This is metaphorically representative of the amount of influence that Usha has had in JD's life and career, to which he has admitted before as well.
Considering the couple's diverse backgrounds, JD is American, and Usha is Indo-American Hindu, it is even more heartwarming to hear Vance admitting to Usha and her Hindu culture having significant influence over his own faith and spirituality. What an incredibly green-flag couple!
In a 2020 interview at The Megyn Kelly Show, Vance talked about his marriage with Usha and how she has always been a guiding light for him. "Usha definitely brings me back to earth. If I get a little too confident or proud, I remind myself that she's way more accomplished than I am," he said.
Who Is Usha Vance?
Usha is a civil litigator who has worked previously in places like San Francisco and Washington D.C, for the offices of Munger, Tolles & Olson. After this, she worked as a law clerk for the Supreme Court until 2018, where she clerked for Chief Justice John G. Roberts in addition to Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Judge Amul Thapar.
During her time at Munger, Tolless & Olson, she worked in different sectors including local government, entertainment, technology, and higher education.
In his 2016 best-selling memoir, JD Vance described her as a ''bright, hardworking, tall, and beautiful'' woman. He narrated the story of how they met and characterized Usha as having a great sense of humour and a direct way of speaking.
