The custom rainbow Build-a-Bear was a gift from her grandmother. When the bear's paw was squeezed, it played the sound of her late mother's heartbeat.

Unfortunately, the rainbow bear accidentally ended up in a bag of donations that her father dropped off at Goodwill. By the time they went to the store and checked to see if the bear was there, it had already been sold.

The tragic loss of the bear led to a community-wide search. People did their best to locate the bear and the news of the bear reached the local radio.

After hearing about the missing rainbow bear, Build-a-Bear Workshop stepped in and offered to create a new bear for the young girl, including her late mother's heartbeat.

They obtained the audio file of the heartbeat from the family and added the audio to the bear. The company aimed to ensure the new bear looked nearly identical to the previous one, with colourful stripes.

The family expressed their gratitude towards Build-a-Bear for replacing the bear and Goodwill for attempting to get the lost teddy bear back.

Speaking with People, Build-a-Bear said in a statement that the company remains hopeful that the original bear is found. The statement said, "it is our sincere wish that this new teddy bear will provide a bit of comfort for the child and the family at this time".

This case does not mark the first time Build-a-Bears with the recorded audio of their loved ones are gifted. In 2021, nurses in a Texas hospital gave teddy bears to three siblings whose mother had died of COVID-19.

The nurses had recorded the woman's heartbeat before she passed away from COVID-19. As per reports, the woman, Sandra Obregon and her family had developed a special connection with the care team.
