10-year-old Emma was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL), a type of cancer in bone marrow last year in April which is said to be one of the most common cancers striking children.
Emma's parents expressed their gratitude for fulfilling their daughter's last wish before she succumbed to the disease. Alas, they were hopeful Emma would be able to beat the illness and never thought they would be losing their daughter.
The Last Wish
In a heart-touching story from North Carolina in the US, the 10-year-old Emma Edwards tied the knot with her childhood sweetheart Daniel Marshall Christopher, "DJ" Williams. The two got married on June 29, just twelve days before Emma succumbed to her illness on July 11.
Emma's parents Alina and Aron talked about how they were about to begin a new treatment hoping it will get positive results when they were told that Emma just had days before her passing. They say "It was like a punch in the gut."
After hearing the sad news, Emma's mom Alina and DJ's mother sprang into action making plans for their kids' "mock wedding" and giving life to little Emma's dream of marrying her boyfriend DJ in just two days. While everything else ended up donated as per Alina.
The Wedding
The wedding was a garden ceremony with more than a hundred guests and saw Emma's beau DJ make a charming entrance. Emma's best friend became her maid of honour. As Emma is described as a social butterfly by her mom who says it was hard for her to be away from people, her friends from school, teachers, doctors, and nurses attended the wedding with a family friend officiating the wedding by reading bible verses.
Speaking about the wedding, Alina described it as precious. She shared how they are glad that Emma's dad got to give his daughter away.
Alina also spoke about her son-in-law being the boy with a golden heart and the sweetest soul who truly loved Emma.

The Illness
Emma was a healthy child and she never fell sick before when, one day, she suddenly started vomiting. It was when her parents went to get her legs checked one day after she suffered a fall and they accidentally found out the cancer was making holes in the little girl's bones.
