Actor Hunter Schafer was taken into custody during a pro-Palestine demonstration organised by the Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) on February 28. The 25-year-old actor, renowned for her roles in popular TV series Euphoria and Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, participated in the protest alongside the Jewish-led organisation, aiming to advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza and disrupt President Joe Biden's scheduled appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
According to statements from the JVP, Schafer was among the 50 protesters arrested during the event at the NBC headquarters in Rockefeller Centre, New York. The organisation praised her dedication to the cause of Palestinian freedom and the pursuit of justice for all.
Photographs from the demonstration depict Schafer wearing a t-shirt bearing a slogan calling for a ceasefire. Additionally, a video shared on the JVP's Instagram account captures Schafer and fellow protesters chanting slogans demanding an end to the conflict and criticising Biden's foreign policy stance.
In a video shared on the organisation's Instagram page, Schafer and fellow protesters can be heard chanting slogans such as "No more weapons, no more war, ceasefire’s what we’re fighting for." They also directed criticism towards President Joe Biden's foreign policy and expressed their disapproval of his presence in their city. The group urged Biden's administration to reassess its position and advocate for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The group displayed a banner during the protest reading, "Jews to Biden: Stop arming genocide," as they urged the administration to reconsider its position and advocate for a cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas.
