The first destination for the best friends was Antarctica. They had to cross the Drake Passage, a body of water between the southernmost tip of South America and the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica, aboard a ship.

The two women said that the idea of travelling the world was sparked five years ago. They were working late when Sandy asked Ellie about taking a trip around the world in 80 days when they are 80 years old.

Following Antarctica, they travelled to Easter Island, which is known for its archaeological sites, and then to Argentina. Their visit to Peru in February was apparently replaced by their previous plan to visit Argentina due to the political violence in the area, especially in Machu Picchu.

From there, they went on to visit Finland, the North Pole, and the Colosseum in Rome. They also visited London, Hazelip, Hamby, Zanzibar, Zambia, and Egypt.

After 40 days of travelling, the duo visited India and Nepal before going to Japan in March. The 81-year-old besties had reached Bali by March 21. After that, the duo made their way to Australia in April.

Hazelip and Hamby, who documented their journey on Instagram and TikTok, have visited over 18 countries across seven continents. The friends were often spotted wearing matching t-shirts during their journey.

The friends revealed that the best part of their journey was the people that they had met. "We loved all the sights that we saw, but the things that we remember the most are the people that we met." They added that they they have friends from all across the globe that they "love dearly"

They also said that they never intended the trip to be a vacation but rather an adventure, and every single day was indeed adventurous for them. The duo, who have now returned home to Texas, are already planning their next trip.
