Travelling is an inbound part of my work. My travel calendar is mostly packed with work related trips and sometimes I try to take my 12-year-old son with me so that I can spend more time with him. But I believe every travel is a different experience. Travel gives you a chance to meet different people, make new connections and to explore places more.

My Life-Changing Travel Moment

My recent journey to Nepal with my team. This journey brought me social media fame. While crossing an international border (Raxaul), I got involved in reducing a five-hour-long of traffic congestion. Someone from the crowd captured the whole scene and the video became viral. I was nicknamed as Hungama Girl when the same video was broadcasted by India TV.

Gaining social media fame

When you travel to the interior of a state like Bihar, people raise their eyebrows when they see a woman driver, and it’s a taboo that a lady will come forward to help with traffic congestion. My action was totally spontaneous after the local authorities had little or no success in clearing the traffic jam. I started helping others in making way out of the jam. The moment the video of this incident became viral, I was approached for interviews from many local and national publisher and news channel. Along with fame and the title that I received, the fact that a small action that I took simply to help my team, somehow became an example of fighting against taboo, elates me. I had two options, either to sit back and be a mute spectator as others or take steps to make a change, I opted for the later one.

My Top  Travel Advice

Well, my advice will be don’t just visit, engage. When you travel, be less like a tourist and more as a fellow human being. Try to get the local touch, get knowledge about local culture, heritage, local cuisine and try to learn simple words like hello, thank you in the local language. Remember to have fun on the journey. On our Nepal trip, we enjoyed the unsullied beauty, being in the lap of the Himalayas. We started with a visit to Pashupatinath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva in Kathmandu and did some city tour. Our next day was packed with ropeway adventure at Chandragiri and some amazing sightseeing. Post that we visited the local market for exploring the traditional craft, and tried Nepali cuisine, and the famous Ilam tea of Nepal.

Don’t just visit, engage. When you travel, be less like a tourist and more as a fellow human being. Try to get the local touch, get knowledge about local culture, heritage, local cuisine and try to learn simple words like hello, thank you in the local language.

Travel and emotional connect

With travel planning comes the excitement. Excitement to visit incredible places, taste different cuisine, meeting different people in the journey. Beautiful places do take the breath away, and when you get a good click to change your Instagram profile picture, it is an added bonus. Places reflect that this world is an amalgamation of differences in many aspects, and yet all of us come together to form a hue that makes humanity a brighter horizon.
