One of India's most versatile actors, Sridevi is dead at 54. She died of a cardiac arrest. The hawa-hawai star was in Dubai where she was attending a family wedding with her husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter. Her elder daughter Janhavi was in Mumbai shooting, as she recently entered the world of the films.
Sridevi is an iconic face of Indian cinema having delivered roles like Chalbaaz, Sadma, Lamhe, Mr India, English Vinglish, Mom and many more that were critically acclaimed. Her snake fantasy Nagina saw Sridevi play an 'ichhadhaari naagin' and the film became a blockbuster hit. Her career spanned four decades and she acted with many key actors of those times like Jitendra and Anil Kapoor.

Sridevi, known for her versatility as an actor, made her Bollywood debut in 1978 with "Solva Sawan". Her film with Jeetendra-starrer Himmatwala received commercial success. Some would say she was India's first female superstar.
Sridevi Kapoor, born on 13 August 1963 was an Indian film actress and film producer who also worked in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada films. Sridevi was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, in 2013
Sridevi was looking forward to her daughter's Bollywood debut in a film directed by Karan Johar.

Sridevi began her career as a child actor at the age of four in the Tamil movie Thunaivan playing the role of young Lord Muruga and acted in many Tamil and Telugu movies from then on. Baby Sridevi won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for her performance in Malayalam Poompatta (1971).
In Sadma she delivered one of her biggest performances. It is a 1983 Indian drama film starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in the lead with music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Sridevi acts a young girl who regresses to childhood after suffering a head injury in a car crash. She ends up in a brothel before being rescued by Kamal Haasan, a lonely school teacher who falls in love with her.
