Man Traumatized After Dating Sister For 2 Years In A E-Dating Horror

E-dating is a modern dating concept where two people exclusively date online, never meeting in real life, increasing the risk of not knowing a person behind the keyboard, but it was to the least presupposed of this young man that this anonymous dating would push him to mistakenly incest with his own younger sister.

A 24-year-old man, to his horror, discovered he had been e-dating his younger sister, Bella (23) for over two years before finding out the person behind his "filthy kinks" partner yet an "innocent" person was no one but his own younger sibling. The man shared this displeasing experience on Reddit.

What Really Happened?

The man explained how, working remotely, created an anonymous NSFW Twitter account during the pandemic, as he wished to keep this separate from his real life and engaged in flirting and group chats of many similar accounts.

In these group chats, he revealed the "fun" of flirting and anonymous praise, sharing explicit photos. One user, Bella (23), sent him a picture with his name on her chest, igniting a virtual romance. They sexted and video chatted, falling for each other while still engaging with others online while labeling their relationship as "e-dating."

Planning a family RV trip, he nervously shared his upcoming lack of internet with Bella. To his surprise, Bella mentioned a similar travel gap. They exchanged more nudes to bridge the offline time. Picking up his sister for the trip, John used the bathroom, struck by an unsettling familiarity. It mirrored Bella's! Panic set in. Could Bella be his sister's roommate? As he told himself, "That’s definitely what’s happening here, I’m sexting my sister’s roommate."

But as this man's sister denied having a roommate, revealing she has been living alone, this man freaked out from the discovery as he thought, "I still couldn’t bring myself to believe that the nudes I had been lusting after were my sister," he added, the same "sweet sister" who once cried over me stepping on a frog and the one who has never had a boyfriend while growing up, "how can her mind be so filthy?"

This man then decided to continue the trip without revealing the truth; however, he did not block her; she sent him a nude again from their family-rented RV cabin, which confirmed his doubts and traumatised him.

The Takeaway

This cautionary tale exemplifies the risks and vulnerabilities inherent to online dating. However, the crux of this specific issue lies in the man's silence, as the accidental nature of this relationship garnered many sympathetic opinions, Not only does the bond of the two raise questions but it also underlines a more important question: should the potential for emotional harm to his sister outweigh his fear of disclosure?

This man experiencing confusion, betrayal, shame, or even potential self-blame, and his reluctance to disclose the truth could stem from a fear of shattering his relationship with his sister or protecting her from "trauma" or a sense of vulnerability in facing an unthinkable and awkward confrontation with his sister.

However, his silence could perpetuate deception and could even lead to bigger emotional turmoil for his sister if the truth any day surfaces for her, as the longer this charade of lies continues, the more destructive it can get for his sister and their bond. This situation could be navigated through an open conversation, and whereas some believe it would be for the good if he took this secret to his grave. While the question remains, can potential emotional harm ever justify this man's continued silence?

While anonymity can be appealing, utilising video calls or seeking to meet in person within a reasonable timeframe can help prevent such situations.
