Tom Daley breaking stereotypes!

Tom Daley has a knack for knitting. He was even spotted knitting in the stands as he watched the Olympic women's diving final. The activity of knitting is usually seen as something an old woman would do after her retirement. The reason being that it's a "soft skill" and one needs to devote time to it. How can we expect men to learn anything creative? They are apparently meant to do "better things." Moreover, it's not uncommon to look at women as "patient multitaskers" who can carry out strenuous tasks easily, knotting being one of them.

But the diver shatters all such unnecessary stereotypes by proudly displaying his love for the craft. If you go through his Instagram handle. "madewithlovebytomdaley", you can see everything from caps, sweaters, ties to jumpers and shoes, all of which he creates himself. He started knitting in the beginning of lockdown. Just like most of us, this was his "newfound hobby" during the pandemic. We are glad he discovered his hidden talent and is now inspiring others to break the glass ceiling.

It's time to do away with the orthodox thinking of creativity being related to women. Art knows no gender. Knitting is a skill not everyone can adopt. If Daley has devoted his time and hard work to master it, why shouldn't he deserve our support? It takes courage to develop a skill and we are glad he chose knitting.
