The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is a comedy-drama television show created by Amy Sherman-Palladino. The show, set during the late 1950s and early 1960s in America, centres around Midge Maisel, a housewife whose life falls apart, leading her to pursue a career in stand-up comedy.

Starring Rachel Brosnahan as Midge and with an ensemble cast including Alex Borstein, Michael Zegen, and Tony Shalhoub, it currently airs its fifth and final season on Amazon Prime. Unlike previous seasons, season five of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel will not be released all at once. Instead, the episodes will be released gradually over the course of six weeks, with the final episode being released on 26 May.

One notable aspect of the series is the depiction of the close bond between Midge and Susie, highlighting the depth and strength of their female friendships. Actor Alex Borstein, who plays the character of Susie in the series, has expressed that the latest season has managed to perfectly depict the concept of "wo-mance" on screen. According to her, it's a tale of platonic love between two women that shows the depths of their connection, complexity, and unwavering faith in each other. Alex believes that the relationship between Midge and her character is the love story of the show, but not in a physical or sexual sense. Instead, it is a story of emotional bonding.

Throughout The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Midge and Susie's relationship has been both amusing and crucial. While Midge's life is filled with various individuals, including her eccentric family, ex-husband, comedian friend Lenny Bruce, and other temporary flings, her timeless and essential friendship with Susie is what drives her passion for comedy.

Despite occasional conflicts and differences, Midge and Susie have always been able to resolve their issues and lean on each other for support, understanding, and mutual success. Sadly, in season 5, their relationship seems to be heading towards a bleak and potentially irredeemable path.

The first scene in the second episode of season five features Midge's interview on 60 Minutes where the host describes her and Susie's relationship as a long-standing friendship that has fallen apart. Even though it is not clear what specifically caused their friendship to end, it is evident that Midge still harbours negative feelings regarding the situation. When asked about what led to their falling out, Midge attributes it to their attempt to mix friendship and business. From this scene, it appears that Midge and Susie may have grown apart due to the fame and success they achieved. It is possible that their individual interests became too complicated, leading to a lack of effort in maintaining their friendship.

Perhaps the life-long trust, respect, and love that the two shared will allow Midge and Susie to find their way back to each other before the curtains close on this series, but only time will tell.
