Shibani Dandekar pregnancy rumours triggered a big controversy. But she isn't alone. Many actors have been questioned over potential pregnancies when it was their tummies sticking out, sarees fluffing up, bloating in general. Dandekar denied pregnancy claims as her stomach seemed bloated in one of her post-wedding pictures with husband Farhan Akhtar. Shibani Dandekar and Farhan Akhtar got married on February 19, 2022 in Khandala.
Why are we so obsessed with questioning female celebrities about their pregnancy? Just a slight hint of bloated tummy and people start storming comment sections with assumptions of the actors expecting babies. When are we going to let them live their personal lives while we start minding our own business? Isn't asking female celebrities if they are pregnant over their non-flat tummies more or less shaming them? Isn't it time that we shed such double standards?
We are so much obsessed with the idea of zero-figure and the perfect body, that we tend to believe that a female celebrity must be pregnant as soon as we spot a slight curve around her stomach. Does that make sense? Not to me, at all. The society has made us believe in the fact that a flat stomach with a toned body represents an attractive woman while that with a curvy figure might either be pregnant or just not as attractive.
Earlier, actor Disha Parmar denied pregnancy rumours as she was questioned by fans when she looked 'heavier' in an oversized shirt. Parmar paired an oversized shirt with blue jeans on one of the dates with her husband Rahul Vaidya and rumours about her pregnancy started erupting. "Never wearing an oversized shirt ever again!" She wrote on her Instagram as she clarified the pregnancy rumours. Disha Parmar and Rahul Vaidya got married in July 2021.
Back in 2021, actor Sonam Kapoor also took to her social media when rumours about her pregnancy took off over her bloated tummy. The actor posted an Instagram story clarifying that her stomach had been bloated since it was the first day of her menstruation. "Hot water bottle and ginger tea for first day of my period," she wrote as she shut down the pregnancy rumours.
South Indian playback singer Chinmayi Sripada also expressed her displeasure over the fact that people had been suggesting that she was pregnant when in reality, it was her saree that made her stomach look bloated in one of her wedding photographs. She bashed the pregnancy rumours saying that it was her decision if she wanted to share all or none of the details about her pregnancy. "We will 100% never share photos of kids we may have. They will not be on social media and I will make sure of that." She wrote on her social media.
Female celebrities rubbish pregnancy rumours: This pregnancy speculation is tiresome. Please stop. - Chinmayi Sripada
We do hear you Sripada, and absolutely agree that it is quite annoying and tiresome to clarify something so personal and intimate. Why is a clarification needed after all? Not only is it annoying to be asked about one's personal affairs, it is also shaming to have women answer about their bodies. It's high time we stop such inappropriate practices as female celebrities rubbish pregnancy rumours.
