The Silsila abduction case had stirred diplomatic conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The daughter of Afghanistan's diplomat to Pakistan, Najibullah Alikhil, Silsila Alikhil was abducted. She was tortured and assaulted until she was released. She needed medical care after her release.
The Pakistani Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said in his statement that there was no abduction. He also dragged the name of India's security agency RAW into the matter. After this, Arindam Bagchi, the external affairs ministry spokesperson said that India was forced to respond to the case.
Bagchi further added, "This is, of course, a very shocking incident. It involves two other countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and usually we’d not comment on it. However, since the interior minister of Pakistan has dragged India into it, I would only like to say that even by their standards, Pakistan’s denial of the victim’s account is stooping to a new low."
