Deepika Padukone Addresses Split Rumours, Ranveer Singh Deepika padukone husband statement
Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh turns 37 today. Aside from his performances, his public displays of affection toward actor and wife Deepika Padukone is also one of the things that his fans adore him for. In the past, he has been spotted carrying Padukone's heels in a crowd, posting lovey-dovey comments on her pictures and even praising her constantly in his interviews. This time, he is in news for introducing himself as Padukone's husband during a public event in the United States.

Sitting down for an interview alongside his wife, Ranveer Singh said, "I am of course a man who needs no introduction. I am Deepika Padukone's husband." Padukone, dressed in pink, was seen blushing at the endearing remark made by her husband while the crowd cheered for him. It is one thing to hear famous men credit their wives in public speeches, talking about them as a support system and driving force but to introduce yourself as your famous wife's husband is a different ballgame altogether. While it takes a secure man to root his identity to that of his wife so openly, it is also remarkable how he acknowledged his wife's potential as a fellow artist and put her above himself. Singh broke many stereotypes by embracing the "husband of" introduction with such pride.

The reason Singh's statement spoke to so many of his female followers is because he positioned himself as a supportive partner who is capable of putting his male ego aside and openly celebrated his wife's achievements. See the video here.

One user wrote, "Kash sare ladke ese hote." I wish all men were like him. While another tweeted, "That's what I love about him. I think everyone does deep inside." These women are not alone in feeling that men need to celebrate their wives or partners more.

We live in a world where the identity of a woman is limited to wife, sister, daughter, wife or mother. Mainstream media does not help when they do a hack job with headlines and introduce accomplished women by calling them wives of successful men. Recently, actor Priyanka Chopra who has proved herself time and again in Indian and international film industry with her acclaimed films and shows, was introduced as singer Nick Jonas' wife. Even without comparing the credentials of the husband and wife, reducing a woman's achievements to her relationship status tells us all that we need to know about our gender's social standing.

Men like Ranveer Singh and Rajkummar Rao--who called himself Patralekhaa's husband while slamming a bad headline on Twitter-- seem to have found a way to challenge that notion. Recently, Vicky Kaushal also got praises on social media for accepting his wife, Katrina Kaif's influence. Kaushal said, "Katrina is a great influence in every aspect of my life. I’m very fortunate to have found a life partner in her because she’s an extremely wise, intelligent and compassionate person. I learn a lot from her every single day.”

After all, wives don't belong to husbands more, right ? Marriage without equality between the partners should have no place in 2022. If men start celebrating their wives for their contributions inside the household and their achievements in the outside world, we have a better chance of achieving that equality.
